President’s Report
As we approach the half way mark for 2021 it is time for a newsletter update from our office. Recent rains have been very welcome bringing us back from the brink of a major drought here in South East Saskatchewan. For the most part field crops are off to a good start and pastures and hay have the potential of producing well this season.
Here at Wheatland, we are into our 40th year of business, and another tax season is in the rear view mirror. It is always amazing to see the way our team works together to service a tremendous number of returns in a short period of time, yet maintaining a very positive, cordial office environment and exceptional customer service. I am extremely grateful for each member of our team who is providing such awesome support and for each of our clients who continue to put their trust in us and allow us to continue to be of service to them.
It was with mixed feelings that we wished Evelyn Goetz well this month as she worked her last day with us prior to her retirement. For the last nine years, Evelyn has been a tremendous help to us and our clients with her very pleasant, customer orientated manner and capable support in bookkeeping, payroll, income tax and financial statement preparation. Her husband, Tony has sold his semi and is retiring from the trucking industry at the same time, so they are both stepping into a new era of their life together.
Evelyn has been assisting in training other staff to take over her clients so we all will pull together to make this transition as seamless as possible for those of you most affected. We all look forward to the possibility of some relaxing of COVID restrictions coming soon so enjoy the summer and have a safe and prosperous 2021 growing season.

40 Years!
It seems like yesterday when a sign was fastened above the door of the old Boll’s John Deere dealership in Fillmore with the name ”Wheatland Accounting Services Ltd” on it, and we began on this accounting journey. That was 40 years ago! That year Prince Charles and Dianna were married; mortgage lending rates peaked at 21.46% and Pierre Trudeau was our prime minister! Personal computers were just coming into their own, and Wheatland Accounting purchased its first computer, an IBM PC with dual floppy drives, a dot matrix printer, a 300-baud modem as well as a farm bookkeeping, word processing and spreadsheet programs for $10,000. For the 1981 tax year, our company processed a total of 40 personal tax returns using a spreadsheet program we developed to do the calculations.
Fast forward 40 years and our company is happy to still be located in the little town of Fillmore in South East Saskatchewan and to have a team of 7 capable staff preparing 600 plus personal returns, 100 plus corporate returns and financial statements, 80 plus bookkeeping engagements as well as doing other accounting and planning work for our clients. The majority of our clientele are located across South East Saskatchewan; however, we are happy to also have clients in other parts of the province and in BC, Alberta, Manitoba and Ontario. Today’s technology makes it possible to give clients from outside of our typical service area access to our years of experience and specialization in agriculture accounting, taxation and planning.
All of us on the Wheatland team want to thank our clients for allowing us to achieve 40 years of success. With the dedicated and experienced staff, we have onboard; we look forward to many more years of continued service.
Congrats!
